About
Ho Teaching Hospital is a public tertiary referral health facility, serving the Volta/Oti Regions and beyond. Advancing premium, innovative healthcare, medical education & research.
Ho Teaching Hospital is Ghana’s fifth public teaching hospital. On 29 April 2019, it was re-designated as a teaching hospital by the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang Manu, following a rigorous accreditation process conducted by the Health Professional Regulatory Bodies and the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority.
The hospital was built by Kaevener Construction International of the United Kingdom and handed over to the Government of Ghana in November 1998. It began providing healthcare services on a limited scale in April 1999. In December 2000, it was officially commissioned as the Volta Regional Hospital by former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, with an initial capacity of 240 beds. Strategically located, the hospital delivers specialised healthcare services to residents of the Volta Region and neighbouring areas. From its inception, it has envisioned becoming a medical tourism centre through the delivery of innovative healthcare.
The hospital serves clients from the Republic of Togo, Benin, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. With its upgraded status, Ho Teaching Hospital is well positioned to function as a leading medical tourism hub, offering innovative tertiary healthcare, medical education, and research.
